What We've Built with Our Community

Every initiative starts with a customer need. These are the stories behind our local grower network, delivery service, deli counter and community hub.

Fresh Produce

Building a Local Grower Partnership Network

The Challenge

Wholesale produce travelled long distances, arriving tired and expensive. Customers told us they wanted fresher, more seasonal fruit and vegetables — ideally grown closer to home.

What We Did

Our Fresh Produce Lead built direct relationships with farms and growers across Stockport, Cheshire and the Peak District fringe. Deliveries now arrive at London Road daily, cutting out multiple distribution layers.

"You can taste the difference. The tomatoes actually smell like tomatoes now — customers notice it immediately."

Community Service

Launching Same-Day Delivery for Hazel Grove

The Challenge

Elderly residents, busy families and people without cars struggled with big weekly shops. Supermarket delivery slots were often days away or came with steep fees.

What We Did

We introduced a phone-order delivery service across Hazel Grove and neighbouring SK7 areas: order by midday, delivered the same afternoon, free over £25. Our Delivery Coordinator plans routes daily to keep it personal and reliable.

"For some of our regulars, the delivery driver is the only person they'll speak to that day. It's a service, but it's also a lifeline."

In-Store Experience

Growing the Deli & Bakery Counter into a Destination

The Challenge

Convenience stores are rarely known for quality counters. We wanted to prove a mini market could offer deli and bakery standards that rival specialist shops — and become a reason to visit.

What We Did

We recruited an experienced deli supervisor, partnered with regional bakeries and cheesemongers, and introduced made-to-order platters for parties and wakes. The counter quickly became the heart of the store.

"People come in for milk and leave with a cheese board for the weekend. That's exactly what we hoped for."

Community

Becoming Hazel Grove's Everyday Community Hub

The Challenge

As services moved online, residents lost convenient local touchpoints — parcel collection, bill payments and top-ups meant trips to distant depots and post offices.

What We Did

We layered community services into the shop: parcel collection and drop-off, PayPoint bill payments, mobile and energy top-ups, a community noticeboard and support for local events and raffles.

7

"We're not just selling groceries — we're keeping everyday errands local. That matters on a high street."
